Examples of training below:

Baby Sign

Part 1 Using sign language with babies and infants is a wonderful way to encourage expressive communication before the child is able to produce words. For children who are unable to communicate their needs, sign language helps to reduce frustration. Using sign language assists in building early vocabulary skills, social skills, increases early motor development and aids in later literacy development. Baby Sign – Part 2 will take some of the signs a step further, building sentences and playing games using sign language. Give your child the building blocks necessary to develop early communication without frustration, use baby sign. *Participants attending Baby Signs Part II are expected to have completed Baby Signs Part 1 or have a strong working knowledge of sign language.

The Nurtured Heart Approach

Cost $45.00. Children with high intensity temperaments are often seen as children who are challenging in school or child care settings. The “Nurtured Heart Approach,” based on the work of Howard Glasser, is a unique approach for working with children who have challenging behaviors. This course combines four effective strategies for helping caregivers transform the way they see children who have high energy and high intensity from a challenge to a “gift” (from the Center for Inclusive Child Care). This is a two-part session and will include a home practice assignment worth one hour of credit. Six total hours will be earned.

ADHD: Seeing the Disability Behind the Behavior

Cost $18.75. Navigating the landscape of a child with ADHD might be easier if providers had a ‘map’ to follow! Join other participants in this interactive training in discovering the myths and facts of ADHD as well as exploring successful and practical strategies for the inclusion of children with ADHD (from the Center for Inclusive Child Care).

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

Cost $18.75. FASD is more prevalent than Autism and Down Syndrome combined, yet most people are unaware of the impact of FASD on society. Most people with FASD look "normal" and most have average IQs, but they have damage to their brains that affects their learning and behavior. This workshop will explore the "invisible disability" of FASD and give strategies that promote success in the home, classroom and community for the affected child.

Autism 101

Cost $18.75. Currently, 1 child in 150 is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Could that child be in your home or childcare? Learn the characteristics of these special learners including practical interventions, reducing challenging behaviors, setting up the environment, and how to work with parents. Create a plan that you can immediately use including activities and ideas to help your home and daycare run more smoothly and effectively.

Asperger Syndrome: The Cousin to Autism

Cost $22.50. Often identified as the “Little Professor,” children with Asperger’s Syndrome are complex, challenging and delightful learners. Although they share many characteristics of children with autism, they are identified as having more typical language development and cognitive skills. Learn about the special challenges and gifts that children with Asperger’s have, how to support their individual learning needs and reduce problem behaviors and how to help them flourish in your home or child care setting.
